The Band

Identity Problem is a high energy 5-piece eclectic classic/modern blues-rock dance band, based out of San Jose, California. With soulful vocals and an entertaining vibe, we aim to bring a fresh, live, interactive experience to any show - large or small. We honor the roots of classic rock, and mix it with the energy of alternative versions, new artists, and mash ups. Spanning decades and genres, there is something for everyone in every eclectic show.
Diane Hull
Lead Vocals and
Percussion

Diane hails from the UK but has lived in sunny California for over 15 years. With lots of musicians in her family, it was inevitable that she would one day find the right group of people, and join a band. And this is it!! Diane has never passed up a chance to sing: some musical theatre, some karaoke, and some impromptu performances. She is heavily influenced by her parents' love of 50's music, her brother's passion for the 60's, her own love of 80's and 90's and beyond...and so, her musical influences literally span decades. She is very excited to be part of this crazy band family. Even if they do have an identity problem!!
Ron Senior
Lead guitar

Playing guitar is something I’ve always wanted to do. Eventually, I’ll get around to it! Every day playing is both satisfying and frustrating because it’s an instrument that can easily be learned but never conquered. Although the strings hurt my fingers, I keep trying to get better. One of these days I’ll learn barre chords! 🤪 Lots of influences to list but by the time you read this, it will likely change. How many guitars do I need? Just one more! 😬
Dan Blake
Bass and vocals

If you don’t see me on stage playing music you’ll probably find me watching live music somewhere. I find music opens hearts. So much great music out there...Come dance! And introduce yourself! I’ve been in bands from Punk to Celtic, Rock to Outlaw Country. I’m influenced by everything I hear. Good music is good music no matter what box it’s put in. Maybe that's why we have an Identity Problem!
Mike Palos
Keys

Mike grew up in the Bay Area.
Mike has played top 40 in the 80’s and later Christian Prison and Outreach Bands, Local Churches, Weddings and 70’s cover band. Mike likes all kinds of music from Jazz, Rock, Funk, Contemporary Christian, Motown, Gospel and Pop.
Early influences were Vince Guaraldi, Elton John, Allman Brothers, Pablo Cruise, ELP and much more.
Drew U'Ren
Drums

Coming from a family of musicians, particularly drummers, I’ve spent my entire life around music. My father, brother, and cousin all play the drums so I tried a different route at age 9, beginning with trumpet in both symphonic and jazz bands then moved on to French Horn. But in high school I got the bug to rock and there’s not a lot of French horn in rock. I've been drumming in the Bay Area for over 30 years playing in original and cover bands - many styles, rock, pop, r&b, even live karaoke band, everything from Beatles and Zep to Foo Fighters and TLC and most everything in between.
Dave Bricca
Drums alumni

Dave’s early influences began with artists such as The Beatles, Paul Simon, James Taylor, The Bee Gees, Cat Stevens, Kenny Loggins, Chuck Mangione, and Crosby Stills & Nash. At 9 years old Dave was introduced to more Rock artists such as Led Zeppelin, Queen, Rush, Journey, Van Halen, The Police, and Genesis. In high school, Dave was influenced by countless Classic Rock and Hard Rock artists, but also also loved many Pop, Blues and Soul artists such as Michael Jackson, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, among others. Later in college, Dave’s musical spectrum broadened to include straight-ahead Jazz, Jazz-Fusion, Funk, Hip-Hop, Latin and World music, as well as Punk, Grunge and Alt-Rock. To this day, it is difficult to find a style of music that Dave doesn’t enjoy listening to and playing.
Peter Romo
Drums alumni

An open ear and solid groove is what Bay Area drummer Peter is known for. He learned to play in a Drum Corps drumline and studied jazz, Latin and funk under Bay Area drum greats Wally Schnalle, Curt Moore and Ron E. Beck. He’s spent time teaching high school drumline, indoor percussion and has played with local rock, funk and jazz bands. Now he’s very happy to be rocking drums with this great group of people that are Identity Problem.
Mike Johnson
Guitar and vocals alumni

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Heavily influenced by Grateful Dead, Neal Young and Phish.
David C. Noble
Drums and vocals alumni

David, a lifetime Bay Area boy, grew up with four younger siblings, who were and still are active musicians. Oddly enough, his two brothers prefer Thrash Metal, while his sister enjoys wailing out a Motown/R&B sound. In any event, although David experimented with different types of instruments, he ultimately decided the drumming life was for him! Needless to say, he has been a dedicated drum fanatic ever since! Overall, David enjoys all types of music, but mostly classic rock with a penchant for 80’s hair metal. He has been playing drums and live shows for over 30 years. His influences include John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, Neil Peart of Rush and Tommy Aldridge (Pat Travers/Ozzy).
Tom Bonomo
